My family and I went for a meal at the sun Romsley new year's eve but sorry to say the food was not very good, I had smothered chicken there was hardly any sauce, the bits of bacon fell off and the chicken was dry, and the food was just about warm and asking the rest of my party the reaction was the same it was ok but not very warm. The Sun was a pub that people travelled to eat in because of it's position. But going back to December 2024 my friends and I went for a festive meal and that was terrible, what has happened, I have been to other Marston's pubs and the food has been good i.e the Hadcroft so whats happening at the Sun, come on Marstons the Sun should be a money spinner, but speaking to other people they have all said that the q

Booking online was an easy and reliable process. Receiving confirmation a few days before the booking provided reassurance that everything was still in place.
Our party of eight had an excellent experience, from ordering drinks to receiving our food. The menu offered a great selection for both adults and the children in our group. We all had a thoroughly enjoyable meal celebrating with friends, and plan to do so again next year, continuing a tradition we've enjoyed for the past two years.

Clean, welcoming and the food was great. We had to be patient due to the limited number of staff. The staff who were working need a medal for how they dealt with the number of customers waiting for food, drinks at the bar, waiting to be seated, waiting to pay for the bill or their tables cleared.

We came here at lunchtime (9th October) and it was quite busy, we came to order the food but my wife having recently developed a nut allergy we notified the bar lady..... only to be told "Have you checked the website for allergies!".
I said no (it was a first for me to hear it was our responsibility before coming!) so as the bar lady said her phone was out of battery I needed to use mine to show me, so standing at the bar being treated like a young kid so not a good start or the way to avoid me ultimately doing this review.
As the pub is in a poor reception area, things are obviously slow to not working. Blaming my phone isn't helpful either.
Not very customer friendly and as a restaurant, it should be their responsibility to do correct staff training, customer service and have easy access to any possible ingredients and for us to either sign the waver etc as other restaurants do.
Needless to say we left and certainly will never go back.
Being part of the Marston chain of pubs it is deeply concerning and should any of your party have any allergies simply avoid going to The Sun at Romsley.
Plus our table (number 36 was dirty and menu's were sticky, just one fork and no napkins) so question the cleanliness of the place or enough staff to do the place any justice.
I have done many reviews on Google and this is worst place I can say I have been or treated.
It used to be a good place to eat, but has certainly fallen behind other local pubs in the area. If it were possible not to put a star on a review this visit would not even merit a zero score.

This is what £15 gets you for a Roast Beef dinner at The Sun in Romsley.
Beyond disappointed today as I received the thinnest sliver of beef ever.
I instantly spoke to the waiter about it and he said that the kitchen has run out of roast meat.
I asked the waiter why I wasn’t told this because I could’ve simply just ordered something else. He couldn’t give me an answer, I even said just give me some chicken or another meat and they said they couldn’t do that and walked off. I’m extremely angry because I’ve never had service that poor from The Sun before.
The girls run the bar really well in the week and we like to regularly come here for food.
But today felt so insulting that I won’t be coming back here which is such a shame because I’ve enjoyed it so many times here this year.
Monday I had a mixed grill which was really good. 🤷🏻♂️

Had a lovely meal to celebrate my mum’s 88th birthday. Everyone was very kind and accommodating. Staff and food could not be faulted.

Came here on a quiet Monday evening with my partner. Upon arrival the staff all night were very friendly and attentive. We used the app and bar to order food and the service on the app and bar was very quick.
The food however wasn't as good as I remember it. Barely any offers on the menu. No offers on starters which we didn't have many as there wasn't much options. We were also given beer battered mushrooms that we didn't order however one of the members of staff knew straight away and took it away and gave us what we originally ordered. The sweet potato fries were overdone, my steak and gammon on the mixed grill were very chewy so I had to leave most of it. Also when having bottles of cider we were given dirty glasses. One glass had seeds stuck to the sides, more glasses had lipstick stains. Really loved the chicken kastu loaded fries.
Overall a nice little place in the countryside with lovely staff and great drinks selection especially outside in the sun. Just if I was to come for food again I'd probably just stick to sides and smaller plates. Would revist.

We hadn't been to the Sun for a while and enjoyed our meals/visit. We sat in a garden booth with the dog and loved the music. When the weather's good it's got one of the best beer gardens around. Plenty seating was available. Bit of a wait at the bar and for the food but overall the level of service was pretty good. The chicken and mushroom pie was cooked perfectly and a really good pie! My wifes veggie chilli was spicy and nice whilst our lads sausage and mash hit the spot. A few more veggies and a similar portion of mash as my lads were the only minor improvements to mention. No complaints though. Glad I chose mash instead of chips (which were fries, no big chips were available) and a useful option. The Sun has been done up since our last visit and looks great. Decent range of beer at the usual prices. We plan to return sooner rather than later (fingers crossed for more sunny evenings!).
